Dry Kapenta - Siavonga

Dried Kapenta - Dried small sardines Recipe

 

Ingredients:

  1. 500 grams dried Kapenta
  2. 1 large tomato
  3. 1 medium onion
  4. 200mls cooking oil
  5. Salt to taste

 

Method

  1. Put water in a medium pot. Allow the water to get warm over some medium heat. Remove the pot from the heat.
  2. Put the Kapenta in a bowl and pour in the warm water.
  3. Wash the Kapenta twice.
  4. Drain the water after washing.
  5. Put oil in a saucepan and place it on the fire (stove).
  6. When the oil is hot, pour the Kapenta into the saucepan.
  7. Fry for 20 minutes stirring after every 5 minutes.
  8. Grate the onion and tomato then later add to the Kapenta and allow cooking for 10 minutes.
  9. After 10 minutes stir and make sure the ingredients are well mixed.
  10. Add salt to taste.
  11. Cover and allow to cook again for 5 minutes.
  12. Remove from the heat stove and allow cooling.

 

 Kapenta and vegetables served with Nshima

 

Take note:

Kapenta is high in proteins and make sure you use cholesterol-free cooking oil (because it is healthy and we care for you). Kapenta can be served with nshima.
